The computer can prove to be a good replacement for your sticky notes, for your calendar, clock, radio, TV and other bits and pieces. Focusing on the TV part, you can always watch TV on your computer as long as you have the right hardware and software. And now focusing on software, a program that can prove to be useful when it comes to watching TV on your PC is NextPVR. This freeware application is a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) and Media Centre that you can use to view live TV, watch DVDs, videos and photos, listen to music, and stream media via a PC or suitable mobile device.

To get started with the functionality NextPVR has to offer, you will first have to download a 20MB installation file into your computer. Next up you will have to run that file and follow the instructions presented by the setup wizard. The minimum system requirements for running NextPVR are: Pentium 4 or AMD 1.4GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM or Better, modern video card, a large hard drive. The optional system requirements are: tuner card, remote control, IR blaster. There are some software requirements you need to meet as well: a Windows edition from 2000 up to Windows 7, .NET Runtime 2.0, Windows Installer 3.1 or newer, DirecX 9.0C, Visual C++2008, and Windows Media Player 9.

Once you’re done with the installation process, you will have to take the time to configure NextPVR. You must access the Settings menu by right clicking anywhere on the NextPVR window, select the devices the application will use, select the audio and video decoders NextPVR will use, choose where to store the recordings, and choose the directories where your media is stored. Should you require it, additional information on how to set up and use NextPVR is available on the developer’s website.

Once NextPVR is up and running, you will be able to use it to view live TV, record live TV, view DVDs, view videos and photos stored on your machine, listen to music, access a TV guide, and stream media.

NextPVR is freeware, meaning you don’t have to pay for the application. But if you enjoy the functionality it has to offer and you want to support its development, consider making a donation.

Relax watching TV or your collection of videos with the help of the free and good looking application NextPVR.
